Assemblymember Celeste Rodrigues is working on policies that support families in times of crisis, protect them from being torn apart, and open real doors to stability and opportunity.
When wildfires and disasters hit, Celeste fought to get families their food benefits back faster. She made sure domestic violence survivors could get support without red tape, and brought in-home visits to families with babies and toddlers. Now, Celeste is working to expand childcare tax credits and end the fees that trap low-income families in debt.
Celeste watched families living in fear of being torn apart, so she wrote AB 495, now California law. It lets parents legally choose a trusted adult to care for their kids if they're ever detained or deported. She's continuing that fight to help students impacted by ICE enforcement get the mental health support they need.
Celeste is fighting to make sure every mom gets prenatal care by letting pregnancy qualify her to sign up for health coverage right away. She's working to get lactation support covered through Medi-Cal, and to require that infant formula be tested for toxic metals, because every parent deserves to know what's going into their baby.
As Chair of the Assembly Select Committee on Latina Inequities, she's leading hearings on how federal cuts threaten the economic mobility of Latinas and their families and is working to fight back.
